Chapter 23

An new force rising in Recreation—the Christianna—the blade and blue robes were standard.  Carried with Ouen's teachings.  The point was not to use weapons, but to have them recognized as an aesthetic power, when words are not convincing enough.  You have to fashion it.

Edsel was motivated by her dreams ever since before having children.  This new belief in demons and what it had led to was to whom it had led her to become.  To who she had been since she had.  Still she asked herself, why would aspiration be so locked-up in an requiring fight if requiring fighting against demons to be an active protocol or standard in society it restricted our freedoms?  What kind of world was she living in that required fighting because demons were by nature, fighting creatures?  And by being like them we had to be ready to fight at all times.  And I'm thinking to myself well like—wouldn't I feel safer if I was ready to fight at all times—just to deck someone if they needed to be.  Because the demons are real and they are out there.  And then I remember Ghandi saying, "be the change you wish to see in the world" and I really took it to heart that this was an option.  An option to be unprepared to defend oneself from physical danger as some kind of messianic tradition—perhaps one inspired by an fate worse than death in fact—because at the middle is the 'taking it' image of androgynous Christianity.  The construed that bottoms are these passive vessels that are abused by their possessor by making them into the objects that they immorally want to be.  As an plot point against the Resurrection of Christianity, which apparently needs an miracle Christiannan to point it out for them that they are responsible for how they treat their bodies.

Edsel's new belief in demons caused her to ask more questions about children, too.  Were they demonic?  How did they become demons?

    Were they born that way?

These facts that were counterintuitive needed to be explained to her.  An caring God, one of many possible in an world of demons and hypocrites, where did that leave her?

The cure for demonic possession is as abundant as the water from an well, she mused, but the truth still stands—there are more demons being created every day.  Where did that leave all of us?  The demon–fairy paradise and their relationship to Recreation.  There were whispers of course, the rumours of an rise of an neo-Golden Age with the well at –

At least Edsel was one of the people responsible for the paradigm shift, in the climes, that would result.

– Nohavœn.  It would take a tactical response to the politics of the day.

They needed to be prepared for anything, including the ease that came with an globality.  Not everything needed to be difficult; it just needed to be right.  What would they have trained to combat if combat was no longer what was needed?  And what would they lose out on if they missed the real possibility of peace and prosperity?  The virtue of flexibility needed to be stressed by Edsel's office, when she became an politician.  It was part of her campaign promise, then, that they deserved to thrive in Recreation.
